  • In 1972, Walter Madsen purchased Fimbel Door Co. on Rte 55 in Poughkeepsie. The company was renamed Madsen Overhead Doors, and consisted of one salesman, one secretary, three installers, and three trucks.
  • The company name was changed to Dutchess Overhead Doors in 1973. As the company grew, Walter retired and his son Daniel W. Madsen assumed oversight responsibility.
  • In 1977, Dutchess Overhead Doors became an authorized Raynor dealer and grew into a six-truck operation.
  • By 1980, Dutchess Overhead Doors was bursting at the seams. To add space, we moved to the old Roe Movers building at 40 Arlington Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Renovations to the building included a new showroom, service, parts department, loading dock, and a larger warehouse.
  • By the late 1980’s, Dutchess had grown to 30-plus employees. New equipment was acquired, including fork and lift trucks, delivery trucks, and a two-way radio system enabling constant communication with the service department.
  • A new warehouse was added in the early 1990’s.
  • In 2001, an in-house training school was built to further the technician’s knowledge on garage door installations.
  • In 2002, GPS was added to all trucks for more efficient navigation.
  • In 2006, we updated our GPS system. Providing better navigation of tracking our company trucks.
  • In 2010, we replaced all two-way radios with cellphones. This gave us better communication to our field technicians. It also allowed our technicians to get on-the-job tech support from our manufacturers.
  • In 2011, Dutchess Overhead Doors Re-Designed their web site, and included a online shopping cart to keep up with customer demands. The shopping cart includes garage door and electric operator parts.

Today, Dutchess Overhead Doors continues to remain an industry leader through the advancement of overhead door design, manufacturing, sales & service.
